My name is Tracy Maynard, and it has been my pleasure to be the principal of Shaw Butte Elementary for the past six years. I would like to share some information about my educational background and professional experience. Before becoming the principal of Shaw Butte, I spent 15 years as a teacher at Ocotillo Elementary, in the Washington Elementary School District, where I obtained my National Board Certification. I became an instructional coach and then assistant principal at Ocotillo. I grew up as a student in the Washington Elementary School District; I have a long history with WESD!
I feel that my responsibility as principal is to ensure your child receives a quality education within a safe, respectful environment. My greatest initiative is to provide leadership that facilitates a learning environment, which provides differentiated instruction to meet the academic needs of every student. Our math and reading programs are academically challenging. Every Wednesday, our staff receives professional development that focuses on research-based strategies to engage all students to reach their fullest potential in math and reading.
The staff of Shaw Butte is committed to a strong home-school connection through various activities such as the annual Fall Festival, Reading Family Night, Math Family Night, and MAC-ro Math for grades 1 through 6. Parents, teachers, support staff and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to be active learners. Through the close partnership between the staff and families of Shaw Butte students, I feel confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.
